A Transition Morning at LFAY for Our K3 Students
Transition morning at Lycée Français Alexandre Yersin
The transition from preschool to primary school is an important milestone in a child's educational journey. Beyond academic readiness, children need time to become familiar with a new environment, new routines, and new expectations. A well-planned nursery to primary transition can help children approach this next step with confidence and enthusiasm. At La Petite Ecole Hanoi, supporting children through these key stages is an essential part of our educational philosophy. As a member of the AEFE network, we work closely with partner schools to ensure a smooth and positive transition for our students.
Experiencing Primary School First-Hand at Lycée Français Alexandre Yersin
Recently, our K3 students had the opportunity to visit Lycée Français Alexandre Yersin (LFAY) for a special immersion morning designed to support their primary school preparation.
Throughout the visit, the children explored many areas of their future school, including the library, the stadium, the swimming pool and the canteen. Each space offered a new discovery and helped them become familiar with the daily life of a primary school student.
One of the highlights of the morning was participating in a Grade 1 (CP) class. Sitting alongside older students, our children experienced the rhythm of a primary classroom, observed learning activities, and discovered what a typical school day looks like under the French curriculum.
These real-life experiences help transform what may feel unfamiliar into something exciting and reassuring.
Why a Supported Transition from Preschool to Primary School Matters?
Research in early childhood education consistently highlights the importance of a structured student transition programme. When children have opportunities to explore their future learning environment before the start of the school year, they are more likely to develop confidence, independence and a sense of belonging.
Immersion experiences also support school readiness by helping children understand new routines, build positive expectations and reduce potential anxiety about change.
At La Petite Ecole Hanoi, we believe that every child deserves a transition that is progressive, supportive and adapted to their individual needs. Through our connection with LFAY and the wider AEFE network, we help children move forward with curiosity while feeling secure and well-prepared.
As our Eagles class discovered during their visit, stepping into primary school becomes much easier when children have already had the chance to explore, experience and imagine themselves there.
