Language teaching

OFFICIAL FRENCH PROGRAM

At La Petite Ecole Hanoi, we have chosen to teach the official French curriculum (in French and English) with an introduction to Vietnamese, the language of the host country. Today, in a social and economic context of globalisation, learning English seems to be essential for the future of our children, as it allows an opening to the world, on all levels.

Learning an additional foreign language is extremely rich in knowledge; it brings a real openness of mind and a greater range of human behaviour. The younger the child is at the time of learning, the better their command of the language will be.

French remains a prestigious language; as a second language, it is the second most taught in the world and the number of French speakers is constantly growing.

Why a plurilingual education?

Plurilingual education focuses on language acquisition and proficiency, giving children a head start in life. In our school, two teachers are in charge of the class: a French-speaking teacher and an English-speaking teacher. Both teachers work in pairs to develop a common learning progression in accordance with the French National Education curriculum. The children alternate with their French or English speaking teacher.

The benefits of plurilingual education:

Practising & learning

Practising and learning several languages has many positive effects on the brain;

Metalinguistic awareness

A better metalinguistic awareness and a better memory help children develop stronger visual-spatial skills and a greater capacity for creativity;

Open-mindedness

An open-mindedness, as children gain the ability to explore new cultures or to interact with other children with whom they would never have been able to communicate;

Adaptable mind

The child develops an adaptable mind which is essential for living in a constantly changing world.
